The Program Director of the North Star STEM Alliance is responsible for managing the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) grant of the National Science Foundation in 14 colleges and universities in Minnesota. The grant involves the University of Minnesota system, the Minnesota State system, private and tribal colleges and community partner organizations.

The North Star STEM Alliance, hosted by the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence in the Office for Equity and Diversity, works across these partnerships with the goal of increasing the number of underrepresented minority students receiving science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) bachelor's degrees in Minnesota.

Opportunities for students in the program include funding for undergraduate research, leadership opportunities, travel to national conferences and professional society meetings, community activities with the Science Museum of Minnesota and the Minnesota High Tech Association, mentorships, and networking events.

The Office for Equity and Diversity is responsible for the University of Minnesota’s system-wide equity and diversity initiatives and programs, leveraging the transformative power of equity and diversity to advance excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement at the University. On the Twin Cities campus, OED includes the following units: the Office of Business and Community Economic Development, the Office for Conflict Resolution, the Disability Resource Center, the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action, the Gender and Sexuality Center for Queer and Trans Life, the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence, and the Women’s Center.
