Graduate Studies supports shared governance; supports nearly 50 graduate programs, nearly 30 certificate programs, plus five cooperative Ph.D. programs; administers two interdisciplinary graduate degree programs (Healthcare Informatics and Integrative Studies); promotes graduate student retention and completion; oversees internal funding/award programs; and oversees the graduate assistantship process.
You will directly supervise four staff (the directors of graduate education, pre-award, and post-award plus the senior compliance specialist) and support the work of 11 other staff. You will utilize your ability to incorporate diverse perspectives combined with your strong written communication skills to write, edit, and revise items such as policies, contracts, internal funding guidelines, website content, campus announcements, and content for the Research & Creative Activities magazine as well as to address faculty/staff/student inquiries and concerns. You will utilize your strong verbal and interpersonal skills in committee meetings, working with staff and faculty, and events. You will use your initiative and follow-through to foster collaborations across SIUE, between SIU campuses, and with Illinois and St. Louis-based universities. You will use your ability to learn software and to question processes to maximize the usefulness of and ensure consistency across our main platforms, Kuali Build and Kuali Research. You will foster an environment that is welcoming and aligned with the university’s commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion.
We expect you to be a tenured faculty member at the rank of associate or full professor with a doctoral or other terminal degree in an area that is tenurable at SIUE. We expect you to have substantive experience working with graduate students, writing proposals for external funding, and administering externally funded projects. We expect you to have a record of successful leadership, including an ability to work productively with academic and administrative colleagues and with personnel from external funding agencies.
