Categories: Internship/REU, Undergraduate

Harris-Stowe State University, with support from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), has developed an innovative Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) to introduce and advance HBCU students’ knowledge and skill sets in geospatial science, technology, math, and engineering.

The HBCU Summer Immersion in GEOINT will hold its 2nd annual REU June 26 – July 30, 2023. We invite your students to be a part of this five-week experiential learning activity. This is a competitive program, which will engage 15 students during the summer with experts from the geospatial science field, including academia, industry, and government organizations.

This program aims to create a diverse and talented pipeline of students who would be competitive in the STEM workforce as employees in the geospatial science industry. In addition, this program will introduce students to St. Louis and its growing geospatial science ecosystem that includes industry leaders such as NGA, Esri, Maxar, and GDIT. Additionally, in 2026, NGA will move into its new NGA West Campus in St. Louis, MO., a second global headquarters for NGA.

All program participants will be provided a $2500 stipend, housing, meals, and transportation to and from program sites daily. Participants must be enrolled in one of the nation’s HBCU colleges or universities.
