ATTENTION: undergraduate, graduate, and REU/Summer Research Program students from Texas A&M University, TAMUS LSAMP institutions, and the national LSAMP community. Sessions are designed for undergraduate and graduate students unless otherwise noted.

June 3, 2021 @ 5p CT - Using Pivot to Identify Fellowship Opportunities
Facilitator: Sheila Green, MSLS, Instructional Assistant Professor and Health Science Center - Bryan Campus Librarian with the Medical Sciences Library, Texas A&M University (TAMU) Libraries

This workshop will provide strategies to maximize the Pivot funding database to locate, evaluate, and track fellowship and scholarship opportunities. Ms. Green will share tips for international and domestic students to locate potential funding opportunities.

June 10, 2021 @5p CT - Obtaining Strong Recommendation Letters
Facilitator: Dr. Samuel (Sam) Merriweather, Associate Director, TAMUS LSAMP

This workshop will focus on how to identify and approach potential references for strong letters of recommendation. Dr. Merriweather will include practical tips on the timeline and materials to supply references.

June 17, 2021 @5p CT - Preparing Powerful Personal Statements
Facilitator: Dr. Heath Blackmon, Associate Professor, Department of Biology, TAMU

This workshop will provide attendees strategies and tips on creating strong personal statements for fellowship applications. Dr. Blackmon will share insight from his experiences as a reviewer. Attendees should be prepared to work on some aspect of their own personal statements.

June 24, 2021 @5p CT - Writing Compelling Research Statements
Facilitator: Dr. Heath Blackmon, Associate Professor, Department of Biology, TAMU

This workshop will provide attendees strategies and tips on crafting stellar research statements for fellowship applications. Dr. Blackmon will share insight from his experiences as a reviewer. Attendees should be prepared to engage in interactive activities and prepare some portion of their fellowship research statements.

July 8, 2021 @5p CT - Overview of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship
Facilitator: Dr. Laurie Garton, Senior Research Development Officer, Division of Research, TAMU

Dr. Garton’s workshop will focus on the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP). The discussion will include successful strategies for competing in the NSF GRFP and engaging activities. *Target population: Later-stage undergraduate and early-stage graduate students

July 15, 2021 @5p CT - Overview of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program
Facilitator: Benjamin Simington, B.A., Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Urdu Fellow – Department of Asian Studies, University of Texas at Austin

Mr. Benjamin Simington shares his experiences as a former Fulbright student fellow and provides students with tips for the application process. He gives his insight about Fulbright with a brief overview and answers questions about the program and application process.

July 22, 2021 @2p CT - Demystifying the National Institutes of Health
Facilitator: Dr. James Izat, Senior Research Development Officer, Department of Health and Kinesiology, TAMU

Dr. Jim Izat’s workshop will provide a broad overview of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) organization, how to identify NIH funding opportunities, the NIH proposal submission and review process, and strategies for writing a competitive NIH proposal.

July 29, 2021 @3p CT - Applying to Graduate School*
Facilitator: Dr. Morgan Schweller, Professional Development Coordinator, Graduate and Professional School, TAMU

Dr. Morgan Schweller will provide an overview of the graduate school application process, early admissions, and provide tips for submitting successful graduate school applications. *Target population: Later-stage undergraduate students

July 29, 2021 @5p CT - Submitting Successful National Dissertation Fellowship Applications*
Facilitator: Dr. Yolanda McDonald, Assistant Professor, Department of Human and Organizational Development, Vanderbilt University

Dr. Yolanda J. McDonald, former Texas A&M University doctoral student and awardee of the Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellowship, discusses her experiences submitting successful national dissertation fellowship applications. Dr. McDonald was also offered the AAUW Dissertation Fellowship. *Target population: Later-stage doctoral students
