You Can Build It: Tools for Bridging Research, Practice, and Scholarship

The Fisk-Vanderbilt LSAMP Regional Center of Excellence in Broadening Participation will host the “You can Build It: Tools for Bridging Research, Practice and Scholarship” virtual workshop on July 15th and 16th, 2021. This event is intended for 2-3 person teams who want to further explore, share, discuss and plan practices for improved STEM student experiences, outcomes, program evaluation and dissemination. Cross-institutional teams are welcome to apply. With informative and interactive sessions and time to connect with researchers, practitioners, and other professionals within the LSAMP community, this workshop will offer a valuable professional development experience for anyone interested in broadening participation in higher education.

Since 2004, the Fisk-Vanderbilt Master’s to PhD Bridge Program has worked to increase the number of underrepresented students in the STEM workforce and professoriate. Its holistic admissions and proactive mentoring have made it a national model for STEM graduate education.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to collaborate with colleagues, researchers, and leaders in the field. Together we will:

• Explore the Fisk-Vanderbilt Master’s to PhD Bridge Program models for admissions, mentoring, community building, professional development, and evaluation

• Identify tools and build strategic plans to strengthen your graduate program

• Define avenues for dissemination of best practices, outcomes, and educational research

Your team registration indicates your group will attend both days of the virtual workshop from 9am-5pm CST, as well as commit to the following:

1) Complete and submit the provided pre-workshop asset-based reflection and needs assessment
2) Produce and submit 3-5 slides sharing a successful practice within your program

Compensation will be provided to each team member for completion of all pre-work. The workshop team will review the submissions and four teams will be selected to conduct a 10-minute presentation at the event. Registration is limited to the first 50 people and is independent of selection for presentation.

Registration will close at 5:00PM CT, April 16th. Visit the website to learn more about the workshop or to register. Questions, please contact Center Director Dina Stroud at dina.m.stroud@vanderbilt.edu.
