LSMRCE Receives Supplemental Funding for Eaton Experience Events

Categories: NSF, Funding

Date: 9/15/2024

The National Science Foundation awards the Louis Stokes Midwest Regional Center of Excellence (LSMRCE) $235 thousand to support the non-academic professionalization of under-represented minority students majoring in STEM.

In partnership with Eaton Corporation and the iCONNECT Eaton affinity groups, LSMRCE will use the supplemental grant to organize six Eaton Experience events at Eaton Innovation Centers across the country for the students from the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) and LSMRCE Partner Schools. The events are designed to offer students interactive opportunities to engage in, connect to and network with Eaton research scientists and administrators to learn about their STEM career pathways in industry. “The Eaton Experience events offer URM students opportunities to interact with STEM research and management professionals in the actual industrial settings. The experiences would help them realistically evaluate their future career options in the STEM fields,” said Kim Nguyen, LSMRCE Project Director at IUPUI. The goal is to cultivate sustainable relationships between the Eaton Corporation, the LSAMP community, and LSMRCE partners. “Eaton Corporation is eager to engage with the LSMRCE Center and the LSAMP communities and build pipelines of opportunities for the STEM talent matriculating from local schools. We look forward to providing STEM URM students contextual experiences that enhance the student's sense of belonging in the STEM field,” Karmell Thomas, Management of Supplier Diversity at Eaton Corporation and LSMRCE Advisory Board Member.
