Poster Competition

Calling all undergraduate and graduate student researchers! The Louis Stokes Midwest Regional Center of Excellence (LSMRCE) annual conference competitive poster session is an opportunity to share and learn about the research being done by undergraduate and graduate students across the STEM community.

The in-person poster session will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Hilton Oak Brook. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 5, at 11:30 AM CT.

Who should participate?

Undergraduates, post-baccalaureates, graduate students, fellows, and post-docs who are conducting research in any of the following areas: biological sciences, computer sciences, data sciences, engineering sciences, environmental sciences, mathematical sciences, physical sciences (Astro, Chemistry, Physics), socio/behavioral sciences, or technology.

  • September 22th - Abstract due.
  • September 29th - Selected presenters notified.
  • October 2nd - Selected presenters RSVP due.
  • November 4th - In-person poster session.

What is required to participate?

  1. Submit an Abstract The first step is to submit your research abstract by Friday, September 22nd. Be sure to follow the abstract guidelines!
  2. RSVP your Participation If your abstract is selected for presentation, you will be notified by email on September 29th. You should follow the instructions in the email to RSVP and confirm your participation by October 2nd.
  3. Present In Person Bring your printed poster with you to the conference that will be held Nov 3-5, 2023, at the Hilton Oak Brook in the Chicagoland area. The poster session will be held on Saturday afternoon from 2-4p CT, with the awards ceremony on Sunday at 11:30a CT.

Abstract Submission

  • Abstracts must be submitted using the Abstract Submission Form by Friday, September 22, 2023, at 11:59 PM ET.
  • Abstracts must adhere to the Abstract Guidelines to be considered for presentation.
  • Submitted abstracts will be reviewed using the Abstract Rubric. Abstracts that score 24 or greater out of 42 possible points will be accepted for presentation.
  • No co-presenters are allowed. Only one author per abstract may present the poster. Students who have collaborated on a project must submit a separate abstract, written by the author. Abstracts may not be identical. Identical abstracts will be removed from consideration.

In-person Poster Session

  • Presenters must bring their printed posters with them to the conference.
  • Poster boards and pins will be provided.
  • Printed posters must be 4ft x 3ft maximum. Smaller dimensions are acceptable. Just be sure to print it large enough that people can read it from 4 feet away.
  • When you arrive at the hotel, proceed to the conference check-in table. There you will be given instructions on where and when to hang your poster.
  • On the day of the poster session (Sat., Nov. 4th), presenters should be next to their posters by 2:00p CT. The poster session will be 2 hours in length.
  • Each poster will be scored by three different judges. The three different poster scores will be averaged to determine the final score. The presenter with the top score in the graduate student category and the presenters in the top three scores in the undergraduate category will be recognized at the awards ceremony on Sunday. In addition, the conference attendees will vote for the “People’s Choice” poster winner during this session.

Travel Awards

There are a limited number of travel awards available for presenters. You can indicate your need for travel support on the abstract submission form. Priority is given to those who are not part of a funded program on their campus (i.e. not a LSAMP Scholar). If you are an LSAMP Scholar on your campus, please contact your LSAMP director to find out about travel support through your institution.
